Heart er et amerikansk rockeband fra Seattle, USA. Bandet het først Arny, så White Heart og senere da Wilson søstrene ble med Heart.

Søstrene Ann Wilson (vokal, fløyte og akustisk gitar) og Nancy Wilson (rytmegitar, leadgitar, akustisk gitar, munnspill, mandolin, keyboard og vokal) er frontfigurene i bandet. Etter flere utskiftninger er søstrene de eneste medlemmene som har vært med hele tiden.[2]

Biografi

Debutalbumet Dreamboat Annie kom i 1976 og ble en suksess med sangene "Crazy on You" og "Magic Man". Senere er tittelsporet "Dreamboat Annie" blitt en klassikker fra denne tidsepoken. Musikkstilen var rock, folkrock og også mer akustisk med fløyte og akustisk gitar.[3]

I april 1977 fulgte albumet Magazine som også solgte bra, og i mai 1977 kom albumet Little Queen med sanger som "Barracuda", "Kick It Out" og tittelsporet "Little Queen". Musikkstilen hadde utviklet seg mer mot hardrock.

Nancy Wilson - 1978

Dog & Butterfly albumet kom i 1978. Her var første siden (dog) litt mer rock enn andre siden (butterfly) som er mer ballader.

Med albumene Bébé le Strange i 1980, Private Audition i 1982, Passionworks i 1983 og Heart i 1985 som ble nummer én på Billboard 200 og inneholdt hitlåter som "These Dreams". Nå hadde bandet beveget seg mer bort fra hardrocken og over mot poprock.

Da Bad Animals kom i 1987 var det powerballade stilen som slo an tonen, blant annet med sangen "Alone" som havnet høyt opp på mange hit-lister og gikk helt til topps i USA. I 1990 kom Brigade hvor singelen "All I Wanna Do Is Make Love to You" ble nummer to på Billboard Hot 100.

Så kom albumet Desire Walks On i 1993 og et jule-album Heart Presents a Lovemongers' Christmas i 1998.[4]

På 2000-tallet kom Jupiters Darling i 2004, Red Velvet Car i 2010, Fanatic i 2012 og i 2016 Beautiful Broken hvor albumet hovedsakelig består av nyinnspillinger av sanger fra bandets tidligere album.[5][6][7][8][9][10]

Utmerkelser

Hearts musikk krysser flere sjangere og har solgt over 35 millioner plater over hele verden. De har hatt 20 topp 40 singler og syv topp-10 album og har mottatt fire Grammy-nominasjoner.

Bandet hadde singler og topp ti album på Billboard-hitlistene på 1970-, 1980-, 1990- og 2010-tallet.

Heart ble i 2008 rangert som nummer 57 på VH1s "100 Greatest Artists of Hard Rock", og Ann og Nancy Wilson ble rangerte som nummer 40 (i 1999) på VH1s "100 Greatest Women in Rock and Roll". Ann Wilson ble rangert i Hit Paraders 2006 "Greatest Heavy Metal Vocalists of All Time" på nummer 78. I 2009 ble Wilson-søstrene tildelt ASCAPs Founders Award i anerkjennelse for karrieren som låtskrivere.

I 2011 fikk Heart sin første nominasjon til Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Da de ikke kom inn ble bandet nominert igjen året etter. De kom inn dette året for Rock and Roll Hall of Fame 2013. Deres Hall of Fame side beskriver Wilson søstrene som de første kvinnene som fronter et hardrock-band og som pionerer, "... de inspirerer kvinner til å plukke opp en elektrisk gitar eller starte band". Ann og Nancy Wilson ble også hedret med en stjerne på Hollywood Walk of Fame i 2012. [11][12][13][14]

Lzzy Hale fra Halestorm sa at "Heart var det første kvinnelige frontbandet jeg hørte og ble påvirket av". Hun sa videre at "jeg hørte Heart, å være jente å synge sånn går faktisk an".[15]

Ann og Nancy Wilsons solokarrierer

Ann Wilson har parallelt med Heart turnert og gitt ut to soloalbum, Hope & Glory i 2007 og Immortal i 2018.[18]

Nancy Wilson har også gitt ut to soloalbum, Live from McCabe's Guitar Shop i 1999 og Baby Guitars i 2009. I tillegg vil hun gi ut You and Me' senere i 2021. Hun har også laget en del film-musikk som Say Anything... (1989), Almost Famous (2000), Vanilla Sky (2001), Elizabethtown (2005) og hovedtema til Jerry Maguire i 1995. Hun har mottatt flere utmerkelser for dette.
