Havregryn

Havregryn er valsede, hele gryn av havre. De er lettkokt, og kan brukes som ingrediens i for eksempel havregrøt og brødvarer. Det går også an å bruke havregryn som frokostblanding. Produktet ble opprinnelig fremstilt til å lage havregrøt av.

Det var omkring 1900 at man begynte å valse havregryn. Før denne tid var havre i flere hundre år blitt anvendt først og fremst som hestefôr.

Havre har et høyt fettinnhold i forhold til andre kornsorter, og det krever en særlig behandling for å unngå at fettstoffet harskner på havregrynenes vei til forbrukeren. Havren dampkokes derfor lenge før den tørkes, gjenoppvarmes og valses. Denne prosessen antas å skade visse næringsstoffer, men havregryn anses stadig som et sunt og mettende næringsmiddel.

I Norge produseres det blant annet Axa Bjørn Havregryn, som er det mest brukte havregrynmerket og Stangeland Mølles havregryn som er blant de eldste produsenter av norske havregryn her i landet. Sandnes-distriktet hadde i begynnelsen av 1900-tallet flere havregrynsmøller som konkurrerte om best kvalitet.[trenger referanse]
