For the Soul of Rafael er en amerikansk drama-stumfilm fra 1920, regissert av Harry Garson og med Clara Kimball Young i hovedrollen.[1] Filmen er basert på en roman fra 1906 av Marah Ellis Ryan.[2]

Handling

Marta Estevan er klar til å forlate et kloster hvor hun har vokst opp. Dona Luisa Artega, moren til Rafael er den unge jentas verge, arrangerer et ekteskap mellom sønnen hennes og Marta - fordi hun tror at Martas innflytelse kan redde sønnen hennes fra det ville livet han fører som ungkar, og gjøre sønnen hennes til en mann. Marta redder amerikaneren Bryton etter at han blir angrepet av indianere, og hun forelsker seg i ham.

Men Rafaels mor sender Bryton bort ved å fortelle ham at Marta har gått inn i et kloster hvor hun skal være resten av livet. Senere forteller hun Marta at Bryton hadde blitt drept, og hun får Marta til å love at hun skal gifte seg med sønnen sin. Marta gifter seg med Rafael. Bryton kommer tilbake etter at de har giftet seg med hverandre, og etter at Marta endelig har oppdaget ektemannens sanne karakter.
