Drapetis er en slekt av ganske små fluer som kan ligne noe på dansefluer. De ble tidligere regnet til denne familien. De voksne fluene er rovdyr som fanger forskjellige slags små insekter.
Utseende
Bittesmå (gjerne 1,5-2 millimeter), ganske tettbygde, blanke, mørke buskdansefluer. Hode og thorax er vanligvis svarte, bakkropp og bein gjerne lysere. Hodet er rundet, de tre antenneleddene er ganske små men med en lang, tynn antennebørste (arista). Vingene er glassklare med fine, brunlige årer. Beina er middels lange, noe kraftige, gjerne gulaktige.
Levevis
De voksne fluene er rovdyr, og fanger helst andre tovinger. Begge kjønn fanger bytte, og i motsetning til dansefluene inngår ikke overlevering av bytte som en del av paringsritualet. Fluene i underfamilien Tachydromiinae løper rundt i vegetasjonen, og flyr sjelden (navnet «Tachydromia» betyr "hurtigløper").
Overraskende lite er kjent om larvene til denne vanlige familien, men i alle fall noen grupper lever i jorden eller i råtnende ved, og er sannsynligvis rovdyr.
Utbredelse
Slekten forekommer i alle verdensdeler med et mulig unntak av Australia.
