Ankelen

Ankelleddet (norrønt: ǫkla, parti mellom foten og smalleggen, ankelledd)[1] er et hengselledd i nedre del av foten. Skinnebein og leggbein danner en gaffelformet leddskål. De to knoklene er holdt sammen av kraftige leddbånd. «Gaffelen» går ned over spolebeinet, som er kileformet, det vil si smalt bak og bredt foran. Når foten bøyes oppover vil den brede delen av spolebeinet kile seg fast i gaffelen og derfor gjøre leddet mer stabilt.

Bevegelser

  • Strekking: Fremste skinnebensmuskel. (Oppover = dorsalfleksjon)
  • Bøyning: Den tohodede leggmuskel, Flyndremuskelen. (Nedover = plantarfleksjon)

I de øvrige fotrotknoklene kan det foregå andre bevegelser. Viktigst er innvasjon/evasjonsbevegelsen. Når man vrikker ankelleddet har man lagd en for kraftig innvasjon. Fotens evne til å være støtdemper skapes blant annet ved den såkalte fothvelvingen. Fothvelvingen dannes av den tverrgående fotbuen, den indre fotbuen og den ytre fotbuen. Disse buene blir hovedsakelig holdt i spenn av sterke ligamenter, som går på undersiden av foten.
