Amdo er også et fylke i Tibet.

Amdo er en av de tre tradisjonelle regioner i Tibet. De to andre er Ü-Tsang og Kham. Etter at Kinas kommunistiske parti tok makten i Tibet på 1950-tallet ble Amdo inkorporert i de tre kinesiske provinser Gansu, Sichuan og Qinghai. Tenzin Gyatso, den fjortende Dalai Lama, ble født i en del av denne regionen som nå er underlagt Qinghai.
