AirPlay

AirPlay er en proprietær kommunikasjonsprotokoll utviklet av Apple for trådløs overføring av lyd og bilde.

Opprinnelig het standarden AirTunes, og var forbehold Apple-enheter.[1] AirPlay har siden blitt lisensiert til tredjeparter slik at de kan bygge produkter som er kompatible med Apple.

Historie

I 2004 ble AirTunes lansert, og var kompatibel med iTunes og Airport Express.

I 2010 ble AirPlay lansert samtidig med iOS 4.2.

Den 5. juni 2017 ble AirPlay 2 annonsert på Apple sin WWDC-konferanse. Den var da planlagt å utgi den sammen med iOS 11 i tredje kvartal 2017, men ble forsinket til iOS 11.4 i juni 2018.[2][3] Sammenlignet med den opprinnelige versjonen hadde AirPlay 2 forbedret bufring, stereolyd,[4] flerromslyd,[5] og styring via Control Center, Hjem-appen eller Siri,[6] funksjonalitet som inntil da bare hadde vært tilgjengelig i iTunes på macOS og Windows.[7]

I 2021 kom macOS 12 "Monterey", som gav mulighet for AirPlay-mottak på kompatible Mac-datamaskiner.
