Abyssalsone (fra senlatin abyssalis, «som hører til en avgrunn», avledet av latin abyssus «avgrunn», fra gresk ἄβυσσος (abyssos), «bunnløs»)[1][2] er det som tilhører de store havdyp, et lag av havets pelagiske soner, opptil 4000 til 6500 meter.[2] Ved slike havdyp[3] forblir denne sonen i evig mørke og mottar aldri dagslys.[4][5] Den dekker 83 % av det totale arealet av havet og 60 % av jordens overflate.[6] Abyssalsone har temperaturer rundt 2–3 °C gjennom det meste av massen.[4][ Vanntrykket kan nå opptil 76 MPa (750 atm; 11 000 psi).[7]

Det engelske ordet abyss, «dyp avgrunn», etablert på 1500-tallet, er avledet fra samme språklige opphav.[8]
