A Doll's House er et amerikansk stumfilmdrama fra 1918 regissert av Maurice Tourneur, som også skrev scenarioet.[1] Det litterære forelegget var Henrik Ibsens roman Et dukkehjem, som utkom i 1879. I rollene som Nora og Thorvald Helmar [sic] ses Elsie Ferguson og Holmes Herbert.[2]

Innspillingsfakta

Ifølge en avisartikkel ble innendørsscenene filmet i studioene til Famous Players-Lasky Corporation, mens noen av utendørsscenene ble filmet i nordlige Maine.

Handling

Nora er den underdanige hustruen til Thorvald Helmar. Hun har forfalsket sin avdøde fars signatur på et gjeldsbrev. Nora låner tilstrekkelig med penger av den lyssky pantelåneren Krogstadt slik at den syke ektemannen kan bli sendt til utlandet. Thorvald gjenvinner sin helse på reisen. Flere år etter blir han utnevnt til sjef for den banken der Krogstadt arbeider. Når Thorvald avskjediger Krogstadt for uærlige forretningstransaksjoner, sender han et brev til Helmer-familiens hjem, der han avslører Noras hemmelighet. Torvald fordømmer Nora. Selv om Krogstadt senere lover å holde munn om forfalskningen, forlater Nora - som nå er smertelig klar over mannens egoisme - Torvald.
