.38 S&W (.38 Smith & Wesson) er en patron for revolver utviklet av Smith & Wesson i 1887.[1]

I 1922 ble den modifisert av det britiske forsvaret og kalt .380" Revolver Mk I (kommersielt kjent som .38/200) for bruk i .38 kaliber Enfield No.2 revolvere som overtok etter den større Webley revolveren i kaliber .455 Webley. Colt kamret også revolvere i .38 S&W men kalte patronen «.38 Colt New Police».

Typisk for både Colt og S&W patronen var en munningshastighet på 220 m/s. Den britiske .38/200 versjonen hadde en større kule på 200 grain med en munningshastighet på 189 m/s.

.380" Revolver Mk II

I Britisk tjeneste oppstod det en del tvil om kulen i Mk I patronen, en rundneset kule av mykt bly, var lovlig eller falt inn under definisjonen ekspanderende prosjektil. Mk I ble derfor byttet ut med .380" Revolver Mk II, som brukte en konisk 178 grains helmantlet kule.[1] Denne ladningen viste seg og være mindre effektiv, men holdt seg på rett side av folkeretten.
