Vigselen er eit ritual som symboliserer opprettinga av ekteskapet i dei fleste kulturar, mellom anna kristen tradisjon. På folkemunne seier ein gjerne at ein giftar seg.

Ein vigsel er som regel ein seremoni styrt av ein representant for styresmaktene eller eit trussamfunn. Dei som skal inngå ekteskapet stadfester at dei vil dette, anten munnleg, ved å skriva under på ei kontrakt, eller ved ei særskild handling. Med på vigselen er ofte familie og vitne.

I dei fleste former for ekteskapsvigsel er det vanleg å love truskap til maken i «gode og vonde dagar» heilt til «døden skil oss frå kvarandre».
