Ein rotasjonsellipsoide, sfæroide eller omdreiningsellipsoide er det rotasjonslekamen som oppstår når ein ellipse roterer rundt ein av aksane sine. Såleis er lekamen, som er ei lukka og krum andregradsflate, eit spesialtilfelle av ein ellipsoide der to av dei tre aksa er like lange. Ordet sfæroide er sett saman av orda sfære (kule) og ellipsoide og tyder såleis at ein sfæroide er ein lekam mellom ei kule og ein ellipsoide. Han ser ut som ei «flattrykt» eller «utdradd» kule, sjølv om ei kule i prinsippet òg kan reknast som ein rotasjon­ellipsoide. Forma og storleiken av ein rotasjonsellipsoide blir avgjort av forma og storleiken til tverrsnitta langs rotasjonsaksen, det vil seie av ellipsen som blir brukt for å skape han. Dette kan formulerast på fleire måtar.

Forma til mange himmellekamar kan meir eller mindre nøyaktig reknast å ha forma av ein rotasjonsellipsoide. Ofte har dei forma av flate sfæroidar eller, om dei roterer tilstrekkeleg langsamt, kuler. For himmellekamar blir han vanlegvis formulert som den store halvaksen a og flattrykkinga f. Omdreiingslekamar blir brukt blant anna som referanseflater i geodesien. Målingar på den fysiske jordoverflata blir først projisert til den valde referanseellipsoiden for deretter å bli overført til eit kartplan ved ein vald kartprojeksjon. Jorda si havoverflate kan reknast som ein tilnærma rotasjon sin­ellipsoide. Eit døme på bruk av dette er referanse­systemet GRS80. Avstanden til ein av polane er kring 21,4 km kortare enn ekvator­radiusen på grunn av jordrotasjonen. Nokre av månane i solsystemet liknar meir på smale og lange sfæroider: Saturnmånane Mimas, Enceladus og Tethys og dessutan Uranusmånen Miranda.
