Michał Elwiro Andriolli (2. november 1836–23. august 1893) var ein polsk målar og arkitekt. Han er særleg kjend for sine illustrasjonar av Adam Mickiewicz sine episke dikt Pan Tadeusz, og for sine villaer i Warszawas forstader. Han var fødd i Vilnius i dagens Litauen og døydde på kurstaden Nałęczów.

Liv og gjerning

Andriolli var etterkomar av italienske immigrantar, som i kjølvatnet av napoleonskrigane slo seg ned i Polen. Andriolli studerte frå 1855 ved Moskvas skule for måleri og bilethogging. Han heldt 1858 fram studiet ved St. Petersburgs kunstkademi. Etter tilbakekomsten til Polen mottok han eit stipend som han i 1861 nytta til ei reise til Roma. I Roma heldt studiane fram ved Accademia San Luca.

Illustrasjon til Pan Tadeusz

Andriolli tok del i januaroppstanden i 1863, og flykta etter denne frå Polen. Han budde til å byrje med i London og så i Paris. I 1866 vende han tilbake til det tsar-styrte Polen, som utsending for polske emigrantar. Han vart arrestert og dømd, og deretter send til katorga (straffeleir) i Vjatka. Fyrst i 1871 vart han benåda. Han slo seg deretter ned i Warszawa, der han arbeidde som illustratør for ulike aviser.

Andriolli var av dei fremste illustratørane i Polen, og fekk oppdrag i å illustrere mange verk som var rekna for klassiske i polsk litteratur. Særleg kjende er illustrasjonane til Pan Tadeusz og Konrad Wallenrod. Desse laga han mellom 1879 og 1882. Mellom 1883 og 1886 budde Andriolli i Paris, der han illustrerte franske utgåver av verk av Shakespeare og James Fenimore Cooper.

Sine siste leveår tilbringa han i ein liten villa i nærleiken av Anielin ved elva Swider, ikkje langt frå Warszawa. Etter å ha teikna sin eigen villa, fekk Andriolli oppdrag å lage utkast til fleire villaer. Slik utvikla han ein karakteristisk arkitekturstil, som vart kalla Świdermajer og som kom til å prege fleire forstader av Warszawa.
