«For What It's Worth» er ein song skriven av Stephen Stills og framført av Buffalo Springfield. Han vart gjeven ut som singel i januar 1967 og seinare på ei nyutgjeving av det første albumet deira, Buffalo Springfield. Singelen nådde sjuandeplassen på den amerikanske singellista. I 2004 vart songen rangert på 63. plass på lista til Rolling Stone over dei 500 største songane gjennom tidene. På lista til Acclaimed Music ligg songen på 99. plass på lista over dei største songane gjennom tidene og på 8. plass på beste song frå 1967.[1]

Songinformasjon

Songen har vorte eit symbol for turbulensen og konfrontasjonane som oppstod i 1960-åra, særleg i samband med Vietnamkrigen, men Stills skreiv visstnok songen som ein reaksjon på ei hending der politiet aksjonerte mot ungdom som protesterte på stenginga av Pandora's Box, ein klubb på Sunset Strip i West Hollywood i California. Tittelen på songen finst ikkje noko stad i teksten og vert meir hugsa for den første linja i refrenget: «Stop, children, what's that sound?»

Stills sa i eit intervju at namnet på songen kom til då han presenterte han for leiaren i plateselskapet Ahmet Ertegün, som hadde signert avtalen med Buffalo Springfield til den Atlantic Records-eigde etiketten ATCO. Han sa: «I have this song here, for what it's worth, if you want it.»[2]

Songen vart framført av Buffalo Springfield då dei vart innlemma i Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
