Den Constitutionelle

Første nummer, 1. februar 1836.

Den Constitutionelle (på folkemunne «Nella») var ei norsk dagsavis som kom ut i Christiania frå 1836 til 1847.[1]

Den Constitutionelle blei grunnlagd av den danskfødde bokhandlaren Johan Dahl med juristane Carl Fougstad, U.A. Motzfeldt og A.M. Schweigaard som dei første redaktørane. Fougstad trekte seg ut av redaksjonen etter eit år.

Avisa fungerte som eit organ for krinsen rundt Intelligenspartiet med Johan Sebastian Welhaven som frontfigur i kampen mot Patriotene og deira leiar, Henrik Wergeland, og er derfor ei verdefull kjelde til kunnskap om dei politiske motsetningane på denne tida.

Camilla Collett forfattardebuterte i Den Constitutionelle i 1842 med essayet «Nogle Strikketøisbetragtninger».[2]

Frå september 1841 til juli 1846 stod diktaren Andreas Munch for redaksjonen. I 1845 kosta dette han den vesle posten han hadde som kopist i Finansdepartementet, som straff for nokre artiklar som hadde stått i bladet. I juli 1846 blei bladet overteke av den ivrige skandinavisten G.A. Krogh, men det hadde utspelt rolla si, og i april 1847 blei det slått saman med Den norske Rigstidende.
