Aristofanes, eller Aristophanes (Gresk: Αριστοφάνης), (ca. 448 f. Kr.–380 f. Kr.) var ein attisk komediediktar frå Hellas i antikken.

Ein kjenner ikkje fødestaden eller den eksakte fødedatoen hans, men han var truleg utdanna i Athen. Han er kjend for å ha skrive komediar som 'Fuglane' for dei to athenske festivalane Dionysia og Lenea. Han skreiv minst 30 stykke, av dei har me 11 bevarte, og stykka hans er dei einaste me har att av den eldre greske komediediktinga. Mange av stykka hans var politiske og dei var ofte fulle av satire om kjende athenske borgarar og deira framferd i den peloponnesiske krigen. Han skal ved fleire høve ha vorte dregen for retten skulda for ærekrenkingar.

Han framstår i Platons Drikkegildet i Athen (Symposion) der han gjev ei humoristisk mytisk framstilling av opphavet til kjærleiken. I Skyene vert kjende figurar som Sokrates gjort til lått, og stykket er truleg hovudgrunnen til den utbreidde misforståinga om at Sokrates var sofist. Lysistrata vart skriven under den peloponnesiske krigen mellom Athen og Sparta og presenterer eit pasifistisk tema på komisk vis: kvinnene i dei to statane nektar ektemennene sex til dei sluttar kriginga. Dette stykket har sidan vorte illustrert av Pablo Picasso og er i dag truleg det mest kjend av stykka til Aristofanes.

Sjølv om stykka hans har tydeleg bodskap manglar dei ofte ei klar intrige og dei liknar ofte meir på moderne revyar enn på moderne komediar. Sambandet frå komedien til opphavet i drikkeviser er tydeleg i diktinga hans, humoren er grovkorna og kan godt kallast både lytehumor og underbuksehumor. Ei av dei nyaste norske oppsettingane av Aristofanes heitte talande nok Full fjert for fred : fritt kompostert etter Freden, og var omsett av Petter Næss for Oslo Nye Teaters dokketeater.
