Kroonwerk

Boven het bastion ligt een kroonwerk;A en daaronder een halve maan;B

Een kroonwerk is een buitenwerk bestaande uit twee (half)bastions met een heel bastion ertussen. Het kroonwerk moet niet met een papenmuts worden verward, die een kenmerkende in- en uitspringende, zigzaggende wal heeft. Bij het kroonwerk bestaan de buitenste fronten specifiek uit (half)bastions, zoals ook bij hoornwerken het geval is.
