Aras (botani)

Dalam tatanama botani, takson biasanya ditetapkan untuk aras dalam hierarki. Aras yang asas ialah spesies, dan jika sesuatu organisma diberikan nama, organisma itu biasanya akan menerima nama spesies. Aras yang kedua terpenting ialah genus: jika sesuatu organisma diberikan nama spesies, ia akan diberikan genus pada waktu yang sama, kerana nama genus merupakan sebahagian nama spesies. Daripada nama-nama yang digunakan oleh Linnaeus, hanya nama-nama genus, spesies dan jenis masih digunakan pada hari ini. Aras yang ketiga terpenting, walaupun tidak digunakan oleh Linnaeus, ialah famili.

Menurut Perkara 3.1 dalam ICBN aras yang paling penting untuk takson ialah: alam, divisi atau filum, kelas, susunan, famili, genus, dan spesies. Menurut Perkara 4.1, aras-aras sekunder untuk takson ialah kawanan, seksyen, siri, jenis, dan bentuk. Terdapat bilangan aras yang tidak dapat dipastikan. ICBN menyebut yang berikut secara eksplisit:

Aturan-aturan ICBN digunakan khasnya untuk aras famili dan aras-aras yang lebih rendah, dan pada setakat yang tertentu, untuk aras-aras yang lebih tinggi daripada famili. Lihat juga nama botani deskriptif.

Takson untuk aras genus dan aras-aras yang lebih tinggi menerima nama botani dalam satu bahagian (nama kesatuan); takson untuk aras spesies dan aras-aras yang lebih tinggi (tetapi di bawah genus) menerima nama botani dalam dua bahagian (nama dedua); semua takson di bawah aras spesies menerima nama botani dalam tiga bahagian (nama ternar).

Untuk kacukan, aras yang sama digunakan untuk namanya, didahului dengan "noto". Notogenus merupakan aras tertinggi yang dibenarkan.
