Vēsture
Burta Z rakstība radusies no feniķiešu alfabēta burta zain līnijas zīmējuma. No tā radās grieķu burts "zēta" (ζῆτα), attēlojot afrikātas [t̪͡s̪] un [d̪͡z̪]. Etruski, 8. gadsimtā p.m.ē. pārņemot grieķu alfabētu, saglabāja burta "zēta" oriģinālo rakstību. Latīņu alfabētā šo burtu ieviesa 1. gadsimtā no grieķu valodas patapināto vārdu rakstīšanai, pārveidojot to "Z" formā.
