Triptofāns (Trp, l -α-amino-β-(3-indolil)-propionskābe, β-(3-indolil)-alanīns, C11H12N2O2) ir neaizstājamā aminoskābe. Triptofāns kristalizējas no atšķaidīta etanola kā bezkrāsaini heksagonālu plāksnīšu veida kristāli. Triptofāna molekula satur heterociklisko indola grupējumu.

Triptofāns ir dabisko olbaltumvielu sastāvdaļa. Triptofānu satur galvenokārt augu olbaltumvielas, dzīvnieku proteīnos triptofāna ir maz. Augi un mikroorganismi triptofānu spēj sintezēt no indola un serīna.
