Lieldators
Lieldators (angļu: mainframe) ir dators ar ļoti lielu operatīvo un arī iekšējo atmiņu. To parasti izmanto lielas iestādes, valdības u.c. Atšķirībā no superdatoriem, lieldatoriem ir raksturīga liela IO kapacitāte un laba savietojamība ar iepriekšējām versijām (mūsdienu lieldatori spēj darbināt pat 30 gadus vecas programmas).
Vēsture
Par lieldatoru vēstures sākumu pieņemts uzskatīt 1964. gadu, kad IBM izveidoja IBM SYSTEM/360, kura izveidei iztērēja vairāk kā 5 miljardus dolāru. Pasaulē ir ap 25000 organizāciju, kas izmanto lieldatorus, tajos glabājas ap 70% visu svarīgo biznesa datu.
