Hlorofils piešķir augu lapām zaļo krāsu un absorbē gaismu, kas tālāk tiek izmantota fotosintēzē

Hlorofils (grieķu: χλωρος, chloros — "zaļš", φύλλον, phyllon — "lapa") ir zaļais pigments, kas atrodams gandrīz visos augos, aļģēs un cianobaktērijās. Hlorofils piedalās fotosintēzes procesā. Tas veidojas tikai tad, kad augiem ir pieejama gaisma. Izšķir aptuveni 100[nepieciešama atsauce] dažādus hlorofilu veidus: hlorofilu a, b, c1, с2, d, f un bakteriohlorofilus a, b, c, сs, d, e,un g [1]. Tie atšķiras pēc to ķīmiskās struktūras.[2] Hlorofila molekulu veido viens magnija atoms, četri slāpekļa atomi, pieci vai seši (atkarībā no hlorofila veida) skābekļa atomi, 70 vai 72 ūdeņraža atomi un 55 oglekļa atomi. Hlorofila a ķīmiskā formula ir šāda: C55H72O5N4Mg, bet hlorofila b ķīmiskā formula: C55H70O6N4Mg.

Hlorofila molekulas sastāvā ietilpstošais augstākais spirts fitols tiek izmantots E un K vitamīnu sintēzē.[2]
