Areola
Areola ir pigmentēta zona ap cilvēka krūtsgalu. Dažkārt ar vārdu areola apzīmē arī jebkuru citu mazu, apaļu zonu, kas atšķiras no apkārtējiem audiem pēc krāsas.[1]
Uzbūve
Areolas ādā ir Montgomerija dziedzeri, kas izdala smērvielu bagātu ar olbaltumvielām un lipīdiem, kas aizsargā areolu no atmiekšķēšanās, kā arī veicina zīdaiņa apetīti. Atveroties uz ādas virsmas, tie izskatās kā zosāda.[2]
Krāsa
Areola var būt no rozā līdz tumši brūnai, bet, galvenokārt, cilvēkiem ar gaišākiem ādas toņiem tā ir bālāka, bet cilvēkiem ar tumšāku ādas krāsu tā ir tumšāka. Uzskata, ka krāsa palīdz jaundzimušajam vieglāk atrast krūtsgalu.
