Hju ir Miriam Holsvortai (Hugh, Miriam Halsworth) po 20 metų santuokos pradeda skyrybų procesą. Tuo metu mieste pasirodo kandidatas į senatorius Viktoras Makfarlandas (Victor Macfarland), Miriam mokyklos laikų gerbėjas. Jis siekia susigrąžinti Miriam. Turėdamas išskaičiavimų sėkmės jam linki Holsvortų žentas Džeris (Jerry), o jų duktė Barbara nori tėvus sutaikyti. Viktoras prisipažįsta Miriam, kad baigiant mokyklą jis metė Miriam dėl to, kad kauliukais ją pralošė Hju. Hju paaiškina Miriam, jog sukčiaudamas kauliukus jis pasunkino taip, kad visada kristų tik keturi ir trys taškai, nes laimėjimas buvęs pernelyg svarbus. Miriam lieka patenkinta Hju paaiškinimu ir juodu susitaiko.

Frank Quinn iš laikraščio „New York Daily Mirror“ teigė, kad Claudette Colbert turi komikės talentą, „Tačiau net ji negali padaryti filmo „Įteisinkime tai“ tokio įdomaus, kaip būtų galima tikėtis. Kol ji viešpatauja ekrane, komedija turi pagreitį, bet vos tik ateina eilė jos partneriams – komedija sustingsta.“[2]
