Priemiestis

Priemiestis (angl. suburb) – mažesnis miestas prie pagrindinio miesto. Dažnai dideli miestai turi daug priemiesčių. Dažniausia priemiesčiai įsikuria po pagrindinio miesto sukūrimo. Dažnai žmonės, kurie gyvena priemiesčiuose, dirba pagrindiniame mieste, bet gali būti ir kitaip. Priemiesčiais laikomos ir atitolusios nuo didmiesčio centro miesto dalys, taip pat gretimos gyvenvietės.

Istorija

Ankstyviausi priemiesčiai susidarė viduramžiais už miesto gynybinių sienų, pylimų, apsauginių griovių. Dažniausiai juos suformuodavo savavališkai miesto kaimynystėje apsigyvenę žmonės. XX a. dėl išplėtotos transporto sistemos priemiesčiai pradėti kurti planingai aplink didmiesčius.^[1]
