Centrinės lygumos Ilinojuje

Centrinės lygumos (angl. Central Plains) arba Vidinės lygumos (Interior Plains) – žemumų ir plynaukščių sritis Jungtinėse Amerikos Valstijose ir Kanadoje, tarp Didžiųjų lygumų vakaruose, Laurentijos aukštumų šiaurėje, Apalačų kalnų rytuose bei Meksikos įlankos pakrantės žemumos pietuose.[1] Plotas apie 800 000 km². Būdingas paviršiaus aukštis šiaurėje 250–500 m, pietuose 150–200 m.[2]

Centrinės lygumos apima pietinę Šiaurės Amerikos platformos dalį; kristalinį pamatą dengia paleozojaus (daugiausia karbono) ir kainozojaus nuosėdinės uolienos; jų sluoksniai horizontalūs arba nuolaidžiai palinkę. Šiaurės rytuose, platformos sineklizės pakraščiuose, susidariusios kuestų grandinės (Niagaros kuesta). Pietuose virš anteklizių yra Ozarko plynaukštė (didžiausias aukštis 762 m), Bostono kalnai (823 m). Į šiaurę nuo 40° šiaurės platumos Centrinių lygumų paviršius kalvotas, susidaręs iš ledyninių nuogulų, yra ledyninės kilmės ežerų (Vinipego, Vinipegosio, Manitobos, Didieji ežerai). Į pietus nuo 40° šiaurės platumos paviršius beveik plokščias, susidaręs iš liosiškų priemolių, suskaidytas upių slėnių ir raguvų.[2][1]

Centrinėms lygumoms būdingas žemyninis vidutinių platumų ir subtropinis klimatas. Sausio vidutinė temperatūra nuo –20 iki 4 °C, liepos 19–26 °C. Per metus iškrinta nuo 400 mm kritulių (šiaurės vakaruose) iki 1200 mm (pietryčiuose). Per Centrines Lygumas iš šiaurės į pietus teka Misisipė. Šiaurėje yra mišriųjų miškų, pietryčiuose – plačialapių ir drėgnųjų subtropinių miškų. Prerijos daugiausia suartos arba naudojamos ganykloms. Plyti dideli kviečių, medvilnės pasėliai. Intensyvioji gyvulininkystė. Kasamos akmens anglys, geležies, cinko, švino, vario rūdos, gaunama nafta.[2]

Didžiausi miestai: Čikaga, Detroitas, Sent Luisas, Mineapolis, Klivlandas, Sinsinatis.
