로렌스(Lawrence)는 캔자스주 더글라스 군의 군청사가 위치한 도시이다. 캔자스 주에서 6번째로 큰 도시이다. 토피카의 동쪽으로 25 마일 떨어진 곳에 위치 했으며, 미주리주 캔자스 시의 서쪽으로 41 마일에 위치해 있다. 이곳은 캔자스 강과 아카루사 강둑을 따라 위치해 있다. 2010년 인구조사에 의해면, 도시의 인구는 87,643명이며,[5] 대학 타운으로 캔자스 대학교와 해스켈 인디언 네이션즈 대학이 자리를 잡고 있다.

로렌스는 뉴잉글랜드 이민 원조 회사에 의해 설립되었으며[6], 이곳의 이름은 개척촌에 재정적인 지원을 해준 노예제도 폐지운동가 아모스 애덤스 로렌스의 이름을 따서 지었다. 로렌스는 피의 캔자스의 중심지가 되었으며 와카루사 전쟁, 로렌스 약탈 그리고 콴트릴의 습격 등의 사건을 겪어야 했다.

로렌스는 캔자스 정치의 중심지로 시작했다. 경제는 이내 농업, 제조업 등의 많은 산업들로 다양화되었지만, 1866년 캔자스 대학의 설립과 이후 1884년 해스켈 인디언 내이션 대학이 설립되어 현재의 대학 타운이 되었다.

U.S. 뉴스 & 월드 리포트에 따르면 로렌스는 은퇴자들을 위한 가장 좋은 곳 중의 하나로 명성을 얻었으며, Parents & Colleges가 선정한 미국의 가장 좋은 10곳의 대학가 중의 하나로도 뽑혔다.[7][8]
