고릴라 글래스

고릴라 글래스(Gorilla Glass)는 코닝에서 제조하는 디스플레이용 강화 유리의 상표이다.

2012년 10월 24일 코닝은 2012년 분기 실적을 발표하면서 고릴라 글래스 장착 단말기가 10억대를 넘어섰으며 33개 주요 브랜드의 단말기가 최소 1개 이상의 제품에서 코닝 고릴라 글래스를 장착하고 있다고 소개했다. 또 500개의 개별 모델 단말기가 고릴라 글래스 기술을 적용하고 있다고 밝혔다.[1]

코닝은 CES 2012에서 '고릴라 글래스 2'를 발표했다. 고릴라 글래스 2는 이전 제품에 비해 내구성이 뛰어나고 스크래치에 강하지만 두께는 20% 이상 줄어든 것이 특징이라고 밝혔다.[2]

코닝은 CES 2013에서 '고릴라 글래스 3'를 공개했다. 이전 제품보다 충격과 긁힘 등에 강하고 지문 등 얼룩이 잘 묻지 않도록 업그레이드되었다. 파손 위험도 50% 감소했다.[3] 일부에서는 이번 고릴라 글래스 3가 흠집 저항성만 개선된 것일뿐 외부 충격에 의한 파손은 별다른 개선이 없다고 지적하며 2014년에는 외부 충격에 대한 저항성을 개선할 것을 요구했다.[4]

특징

일반적인 유리보다 상대적으로 더 얇은데 비해 충격을 잘 흡수해 일반유리보다 쉽게 깨지지 않는다. 오늘날 스마트폰의 화면보호를 위해 일부 스마트폰들은 이 강화유리를 사용한다.
