თუკიდიდე (ძვ. ბერძნ. Θουκυδίδης; დ. დაახლ. ძვ. წ. 465/460/455 ― გ. ძვ. წ. 400/395) — ბერძენი (ათენელი) ისტორიკოსი, წარჩინებული და მდიდარი ოჯახის შვილი. „ისტორიის მამის“, ჰეროდოტეს, უმცროსი თანამედროვე. სოფისტების მოწაფე და მიმდევარი.

თუკიდიდე დიდად აფასებდა იმ დროის ათენის პოლიტიკური და კულტურული ცხოვრების სათავეში მდგარ პერიკლეს. იბრძოდა პელოპონესის ომში (ძვ. წ. 431-404). იყო სტრატეგოსი და ათენელთა ფლოტის მეთაური თრაკიის სანაპიროს დაცვისას. დამარცხების შემდეგ, (სპარტელებმა მიიტაცეს ამფიპოლისი) ძვ. წ. 424 წელს, ათენელებმა იგი სამშობლოდან გააძევეს 20 წლით. ექსორიაში ყოფნის დროს თუკიდიდე თავის მამულში — თრაკიაში — შეუდგა თხზულების, „ისტორიის“, წერას. თხზულება შედგება 8 წიგნისაგან და ეძღვნება პელოპონესის ომების ისტორიას. პირველი წიგნი, ე. წ. „არქეოლოგია“, როგორც შესავალი ნაწილი, მიმოიხილავს საბერძნეთის ისტორიას უძველესი დროიდან პელოპონესის ომამდე. თხრობა წყდება ომის დაწყებიდან მე-20 წლის (ძვ. წ. 411) ამბებით; ჩანს, ავტორს სიკვდილმა მოუსწრო და თხზულება დაუმთავრებელი დარჩა (მოცემული ნაწარმოები თავისი შრომებით აზრობრივად გააგრძელა ქსენოფონტმა).

თუკიდიდე ითვლება ისტორიის კრიტიკის შესწავლისა და გააზრების (ანუ მეცნიერული ისტორიის) ფუძემდებლად. წინარე ისტორიკოსთაგან (ლოგოგრაფოსები, ჰეროდოტე) განსხვავებით, იგი საისტორიო თხზულების მიზანდასახულობად თვლის არა „ამოდ საკითხავი“ და „ამოდ სასმენი“ ამბების თხრობას, არამედ „ჭეშმარიტების ძიებას“. ყოველი ფაქტის დასადგენად კრიტიკულად შეისწავლის შესაბამის ისტორიულ მასალას („წყაროს“).

თუკიდიდე პირველი შეუდგა ომის მიზეზებისა და საბაბის ძიებას. პირველი ისტორიკოს-რაციონალისტია, რომელმაც უარყო ისტორიის მოვლენებში (ბუნების მოვლენებშიც) ღმერთის მონაწილეობის „ფაქტი“ (თუმცა ღმერთს არ უარყოფდა). თუკიდიდემ პირველმა დაძებნა ისტორიულ, პოლიტიკურ მოვლენათა ეკონომიური და სოციალური საფუძვლები. იგი საკუთარი თხზულების მნიშვნელობას თავად აფასებდა და მას „მარადიულობის მონაპოვრად“ მიიჩნევდა. პოლიტიკური მრწამსით თუკიდიდე დემოკრატიისა და ოლიგარქიის „შერწყმა-შერევის“ პოზიციაზე იდგა, მან განაცხადა, რომ ეს იყო საუკეთესო ფორმით ხელისუფლების მართვა. საერთოდ თუკიდიდე იშვიათად გამოხატავდა თავის პირად მოსაზრებებს.
