駅周辺

かつては駅周辺は民家もまばらな土地であり、新川海水浴場へのアクセス駅であった。しかしながら、国内各所で頻発したサメ騒動以降は海水浴客自体が激減したため、今日では駅の東側に集積しつつある住宅地の通勤通学客の利用が多くなっている。

駅前には、夏場の海水浴客向けに昔からいくつかの商店があり、今日でも駅利用者等を相手に事業を営んでいるものの、かつての賑わいはない。
