ペール・アクセル・リュードベリ

ペール・アクセル・リュードベリ（Per Axel Rydberg、1860年7月6日 - 1931年7月25日）は、スウェーデン生まれのアメリカ合衆国の植物学者である。ニューヨーク植物園・標本館の初代の学芸員を務めた[1]。

略歴

ヴェステルイェートランド地方のOdhで生まれ、1882年にアメリカ合衆国に移民した。1884年から1890年にネブラスカ州で数学を教えながら、ネブラスカ大学で学んだ。ネブラスカ大学で1895年にM.A.を取得した後、1898年にコロンビア大学で博士号を得た。卒業後、アメリカ農務省からネブラスカ西部の植物調査の依頼を受け1892年にもサウスダコタ州の山地、ブラックヒルズの調査、1893年にネブラスカ州のサンドヒルズの調査を行った。

1900年にコロラド州の南西部の野外調査を行い、1901年にスウェーデンに帰郷する時にイギリスのキューガーデンを訪れた。1905年にユタ州で採集を行い、1911年にユタ州南部、1925年にアレゲーニー山脈で採集を行った。1929年に健康問題でカンサスの調査を中断するまでその後もアメリカ各地で野外調査を続けた。

多くの論文を執筆し、生涯で1,700ほどの新種植物を記載した。アメリカ合衆国のグレートプレーンズやロッキー山脈の植物相を専門とし、1899年から、ニューヨーク植物園の職員となり、後に植物園の標本館の最初の学芸員になった[2]。

1896年トーリー植物クラブの会員になり、1900年に米国科学振興協会に参加し、1901年にフェローに選ばれた。1901年にアメリカ植物学会の准会員に選ばれた。 1907年にアメリカ地理学会、アメリカ生態学会の会員になった。
