「Paradise Lost」（パラダイス・ロスト）は、茅原実里の楽曲。5枚目[注 1]のシングルとして2008年11月5日にLantisから発売された。

概要

前作「雨上がりの花よ咲け」から3ヶ月ぶりのリリースで、2008年3作目のシングル。

表題曲「Paradise Lost」は、テレビアニメ『喰霊―零―』のオープニングテーマとして使用されている。テレビアニメのタイアップとしては「純白サンクチュアリィ」以来であり、個人名義でオープニングテーマを担当するのは今作が初となる。また、同曲はこのシングル発売と同月の11月26日に発売されたオリジナルアルバム『Parade』のリードシングルであるが、アルバムでは曲名が『Paradise Lost -at next nest-』となり、イントロに新しく音が加えられている。

ジャケット撮影の時は、ほとんどのジャケットがドレッシーなイメージの衣装であったが今回は今までのジャケットとはイメージの違う髪型、衣装となり、茅原は「新しいチャレンジであり、面白いジャケットになった」と語っている[1]。

表題曲のPVも製作され、2009年2月4日発売の『Message 02』に収録されている。また、ランティス公式サイト内特集ページではミュージッククリップをワンコーラス視聴できる。また、GyaOにおいてフルコーラス・バージョンが期間限定配信された。

茅原実里のシングルでは初のスリーブパッケージ仕様ではない。また、茅原が本作を店頭で購入しに行った時、商品をレジに持って行った途端に店内のBGMが「Paradise Lost」になって初めて脇汗をかいたが、とても嬉しかったことを明かしている[2][3]。

Webアニメ『涼宮ハルヒちゃんの憂鬱』第6話の中に、長門有希がハンディカラオケで同曲を歌う場面が登場する。ただしこのバージョンは原曲より音程が低く、またDVD第1巻同梱の『涼宮ハルヒちゃんの憂鬱 特製サウンドトラック』にも収録されていない。

ライブではクイーンのフレディ・マーキュリーのようにマイクスタンドの上の部分だけを持って歌唱するのが通例になっており、ライブの舞台監督がおもむろに出して勧めてきたことをきっかけに使用を始め、「フレディー・マーキュリーと同じパフォーマンスをしてもギャグになってしまう」との思いから試行錯誤し自己流の持ち方を開拓した[4]。

2017年の公式ファンクラブ「M-Smile」のイベント「M-Smile MEMBER EVENT VOL.4 Minorin Station」では、カラオケをイメージした演出の一環としてカラオケ映像風の特別ミュージックビデオを制作し「Planet patrol」のミュージックビデオでカルタ読み手として出演した佐野順子も出演、イベント後にはカラオケパセラ限定で1ヶ月間配信された[5]。
