第16回都市対抗野球大会

第16回都市対抗野球大会（だい16かいとしたいこうやきゅうたいかい）は1942年8月1日から8月7日まで後楽園球場で開かれた都市対抗野球大会である。

概要

  • 前年は戦火の拡大と集会禁止令発令により、開幕直前に中止となったが、この年は太平洋戦争で日本が比較的優位に戦況を進めていたためか、当局は「銃後国民の戦意発揚のため」に都市対抗野球大会の実施を許可、2年ぶりに後楽園球場に都市対抗野球が戻ってきた。
  • 16チームが参加したが、そのうち4チーム（東京鉄道局、横浜蚕糸倶楽部、大同製鋼、日鉄広畑）が初出場を果たした。
  • 戦中で行われたトーナメントを制したのは、第14回大会に引き続き全京城が「連覇」（ただし、回次は連続していないので連続優勝とはなっていない）。黒獅子旗はまたも海を渡り、その後数奇な運命をたどる（第17回大会#概要参照）。
  • この後太平洋戦争の戦況は悪化、学生野球もプロ野球も縮小傾向が続き、都市対抗野球大会もこの年を最後に3年間の空白期に入る。結果的に、満洲、朝鮮、台湾の“外地”チームにとって最後の都市対抗野球大会となった。
