ポピー（Poppy、1995年1月1日 - ）[注釈 1]は、アメリカ合衆国の歌手、YouTuber。本名はモライア・ローズ・ペレイラ（Moriah Rose Pereira）[1]。YouTube上にアップロードする動画でカルト的な人気を博しており、歌手としてはアルバム『Poppy.Computer』や同作の収録曲「Moshi Moshi」などの作品で知られる[3]。

来歴

マサチューセッツ州ボストンで生まれ、後にテネシー州ナッシュビルに移る[4]。

YouTube上に最初の動画を公開したのは2014年11月で、綿菓子をひたすら食べ続ける動画をアップロードし、230万回の再生回数を記録した[5]。2015年にロサンゼルスに移住して以降、タイタニック・シンクレアと共同で動画を制作するようになり、「I'm Poppy」（私はポピー）というフレーズを10分間ひたすら繰り返す動画が7百万回の再生回数を記録した[6][2]。

「Poppy.Computer」ツアー公演（2017年10月）

音楽では、2015年に楽曲「Everybody Wants to Be Poppy」を発表。2016年にはEP『Bubblebath』をリリースした。『Bubblebath』からの楽曲「Lowlife」のミュージックビデオは再生回数が1900万回に上った[2]。また同年には、アルバム『3:36 (Music To Sleep To)』をセントルイス・ワシントン大学医学部と共同で制作している[7]。2017年にはスタジオアルバム『Poppy.Computer』をマッド・ディセントからリリースした[6]。2018年1月には東京でショーケース公演が行われ[8]、同年3月に開催された「POPSPRING 2018」にも出演した[9]。2018年8月、アルバム『Am I a Girl?』からの先行シングル「Time Is Up」をリリースし、この曲でディプロと共演した[10]。2018年10月31日、アルバム『Am I a Girl?』をリリースした[11]。2019年5月、フィーバー333（英語版）をフィーチャーした楽曲「Scary Mask」を発表し[12]、6月には同曲を収録したEP『Choke』をリリースした[13]。

「Everybody Wants to Be Poppy」のタイトルを冠したウェブアニメ[14]も制作されており、タイタニック・シンクレアやマット・ベネットらが声優として参加している。ポピー本人を主人公にした漫画『Genesis 1』を自身とタイタニック・シンクレアの執筆により発表され、2019年夏にリリースされた[15]。

2020年1月、前作よりメタル寄りのサウンドを重視した3rdアルバム「I Disagree」をリリースした[16]。リリースを控える中、2019年12月29日にポピーはTwitter上で、タイタニック・シンクレアとの職業上の関係が終わったことを明らかにした。[17]以前から相互にSNSアカウントのフォロー解除、動画におけるクレジットの削除などが行われていた。また、文面においては、タイタニックの過去のパートナーであり、破局後タイタニックに対し訴訟を起こしたMars Argo氏と同様の心理的被害を受けたと語っている[18]。

ポピーはワールドツアー「I Disagree Tour」を2020年1月22日のサンフランシスコ公演より開始した[19][20]。しかし同年より新型コロナウイルス感染症が世界中で拡大した影響で、3月以降に予定されていた欧州での公演を全て延期することが発表された[21]。

アメリカのプロレス団体WWENXTに所属する日本人レスラー紫雷イオの入場曲にミニアルバム「Choke」から「Scary Mask」を提供した。

作品の方向性

ポッピーの音楽スタイルは J-Pop、ポップ、ヘヴィメタル、インダストリアル、カワイイメタルとして描かれています。>[22][23]

YouTube上で公開した動画は、上記の綿菓子を食べ続けるものや、「I'm Poppy」を繰り返す動画、他にもマネキンや鉢植えと会話するものや聖書を読み続ける動画などが存在する[24][25]。 同じことを繰り返すことで視聴者がメッセージに集中できるようにする内容が多く、今日のYouTubeカルチャーにありがちなハイテンポで編集されすぎる傾向にあえて逆行する戦略を採っている[6]

音楽面では、初期作品については日本のカルチャー（いわゆる「カワイイ文化」）の影響を受けていることを明かしている[3]。アルバム『Poppy.Computer』の制作には日本の音楽プロデューサー、サカイ・リョウスケ（Dr. R）が参加しているほか[5]、収録曲の「Moshi Moshi」（もしもし）は、ポピーが通っていた日本語教室で覚えた言葉であると話す[3]。
