Sankara Variyar
Śaṅkara Vāriyar (circa 1500 – circa 1560) è stato un astronomo e matematico indiano.
Appartenente alla Scuola del Kerala, la sua famiglia prestava servizio come assistente presso il tempio di Tṛkkuṭaveli, nei pressi della moderna Ottapalam.[1]
Biografia e formazione
Sankara fu allievo di Nilakantha Somayaji (1444–1544), autore del Tantrasamgraha, e di Jyesthadeva (1500–1575), l'autore della Yuktibhāṣā. Altri suoi maestri furono Netranarayana, mecenate di Nilakantha Somayaji, e Citrabhanu, autore di un trattato astronomico datato 1530 e di un'opera minore contenente soluzioni e dimostrazioni per equazioni algebriche.[1]

- Yukti-dipika: un ampio commentario in versi sul Tantrasamgraha, basato sulla Yuktibhāṣā.
- Laghu-vivrti: un breve commentario in prosa sul Tantrasamgraha.
- Kriyakramakari: un lungo commentario in prosa sulla Līlāvatī di Bhāskara II.
- Un commentario astronomico datato 1529 d.C.
- Un manuale di astronomia completato intorno al 1554 d.C.
