NGC 3257 è una galassia lenticolare situata nella costellazione della Macchina Pneumatica, a una distanza di circa 171 milioni di anni luce dalla nostra Via Lattea.[1]
Scoperta
La galassia è stata scoperta il 2 maggio 1834 dall'astronomo britannico John Herschel.[1]
Gruppo di NGC 3281
NGC 3257 fa parte del Gruppo di NGC 3281 che comprende almeno sette galassie. Gli altri sei membri del gruppo sono NGC 3249, NGC 3275, NGC 3281, ESO 375-26, ESO 375-62 e ESO 375-69.[4]
