NGC 3087 è una galassia ellittica situata nella costellazione della Macchina Pneumatica, a una distanza di circa 144 milioni di anni luce dalla nostra Via Lattea.[1]
Scoperta
La galassia è stata scoperta il 2 febbraio 1835 dall'astronomo britannico John Herschel.[1]
Gruppo di NGC 3038
NGC 3087 è la galassia più luminosa del Gruppo di NGC 3038. Oltre a NGC 3038 e NGC 3087, questo gruppo comprende almeno altre 4 galassie: NGC 3120, IC 2532, ESO 373-21 e ESO 373-26.[4]
