NGC 3051 è una vasta galassia lenticolare situata nella costellazione della Macchina Pneumatica, a una distanza di circa 139 milioni di anni luce dalla nostra Via Lattea.[1]
Scoperta
La galassia è stata scoperta il 24 marzo 1835 dall'astronomo britannico John Herschel.[1]
Gruppo di NGC 3054
NGC 3051 è un membro del Gruppo di NGC 3054, un gruppo di galassie che comprende almeno nove membri. Oltre a NGC 3054 e NGC 3051, le altre galassie del gruppo sono NGC 3078, NGC 3084, NGC 3089, IC 2531, IC 2537, ESO 499-26 e ESO 499-32.[4]
