Morez Keith Johnson Jr. (Riverdale, 25 gennaio 2006) è un cestista statunitense, professionista nella NBA con i Dallas Mavericks.

Carriera

Carriera universitaria

Illinois

Johnson si è iscritto all'Università dell'Illinois nel 2024.[1] Il 4 novembre 2024 è sceso per la prima volta in campo facendo registrare 3 punti, 8 rimbalzi e 6 stoppate contro Eastern Illinois. Il 26 novembre contro i Maryland Eastern Shore Hawks men ha chiuso con 10 punti e 13 rebounds in 14 minuti entrando dalla panchina, facendo registrare la sua prima doppia doppia. L'8 gennaio 2025 ha segnato un nuovo primato personale di 20 punti con 11 rimbalzi contro Penn State. Il 2 febbraio contro Ohio State ha segnato 14 punti con un record in carriera di 15 rimbalzi.[2]

Johnson contro Northwestern nel 2026

Il 15 febbraio Johnson si è rotto un polso contro Michigan State.[3] Ha perso così il resto della stagione regolare, facendo ritorno nel Torneo della Big Ten Conference.[4] A fine stagione ha annunciato la decisione di cambiare istituto. Con Illinois ha disputato 30 partite, di cui 8 come titolare, con le medie di 7,0 punti, 6,7 rimbalzi e 1,1 stoppate a gara.[5]

Michigan

Il 1º aprile 2025 Johnson si è trasferito all'Università del Michigan per giocare per l'allenatore Dusty May.[6] Il 3 novembre ha fatto il suo debutto con i Wolverines contro Oakland, guidando la squadra con un nuovo primato personale di 24 punti.[7][8] Ha pareggiato tale primato il 29 dicembre, oltre a 11 rimbalzi, contro McNeese State.[9][10] Il 2 gennaio 2026 ha portato il suo record personale a 29 punti, con 6 rimbalzi, contro USC.[11][12] In seguito è stato premiato come co-giocatore della Big Ten della settimana, in cui ha tenuto le medie di 26,5 punti e 8,5 rimbalzi, tirando con il 75% dal campo.[13] Il 14 gennaio contro Washington ha segnato 16 punti e raccolto un record in carriera di 16 rimbalzi.[14] Dopo il titolo della stagione regolare di Michigan, è stato inserito nel quintetto difensivo ideale della Big Ten e nella seconda formazione ideale assoluta.[15][16]

Il 19 marzo, nel primo turno del Torneo NCAA contro Howard, Johnson ha terminato con 21 punti e 10 rimbalzi, tirando con 8 su 8 dal campo.[17] A fine stagione Michigan ha conquistato il titolo nazionale e ha pareggiato il record della Big Ten con 37 vittorie.[18][19] Johnson è stato inserito nel quintetto ideale delle Final Four, assieme ai compagni Aday Mara ed Elliot Cadeau.[20] Il 24 aprile ha annunciato che sarebbe passato tra i professionisti.[21]

NBA

Joihnson è stato scelto come nono assoluto dai Dallas Mavericks nel Draft NBA 2026.[22] Si è così riunito con il suo allenatore al college, Dusty May, che è stato annunciato come nuovo capo-allenatore dei Mavericks il giorno del draft.[23]
