Il lago Riffel è un lago ubicato a Zermatt.
Storia e descrizione
Il lago si è formato in una conca scavata dall'erosione glaciale; in seguito al ritiro dei ghiacci, la conca si è riempita con l'acqua derivante dallo scioglimento delle nevi: il bacino, infatti, non possiede alcun emissario.
Situato a un'altezza di 2 575[1] metri sul livello del mare, il lago si trova nei pressi della cima del Riffelhorn, da cui prende il nome. Ha una superficie di circa 4 500 metri quadrati e una profondità massima di 4 metri. Caratteristica è la possibilità di ammirare il riflesso della parete est del Cervino sulla sua superficie.[1] Nelle immediate vicinanze si trova la stazione di Rotenboden, lungo la ferrovia del Gornergrat.[2]
