LTJ Bukem, pseudonimo di Daniel Andrew Williamson (20 settembre 1967), è un musicista e disc jockey britannico. A lui viene attribuita l'evoluzione della jungle da propaggine della techno hardcore allo stile che sarebbe poi diventato alla fine degli anni 1990.[1]

Biografia

Williamson nacque nel 1967 e crebbe in Inghilterra. Stando a quanto dichiarò in un'intervista del 2007, venne adottato dalla nascita; sua madre era un'ugandese trapiantata a Parigi la quale gli disse che il padre era egiziano.[2]

Il futuro producer si formò come pianista classico e, durante l'adolescenza, scoprì la fusion ed entrò in un gruppo jazz funk.[3] Decise di diventare un disc jockey dalla fine degli anni 1980, diventando famoso nel circuito rave agli inizi del decennio seguente.[3] Williamson decise di adottare lo pseudonimo "LTJ Bukem", ispirato al suo soprannome "Book 'em", tratto a sua volta dalla citazione Book 'em, Danno, detta da Steve McGarrett della serie Hawaii Squadra Cinque Zero quando qualcuno viene arrestato.[4] Nel 1991 fondò la Good Looking Records,[1] per la quale lavoreranno artisti come Blame, Seba, Big Sud, Blu Mar Ten, DJ Dream (Aslan Davis), Future Engineers, Tayla, Aquarius (meglio conosciuto come Photek), Peshay, Source Direct e Artemis.

In qualità di produttore, LTJ Bukem registrò una serie di tracce drum and bass come Logical Progression (1991), Demon's Theme (1992), Atlantis (1993), Music (1993) e Horizons (1995) e inaugurò la serie di raccolte Logical Progression nel 1996. In quest'ultima, l'artista coniò una forma di drum and bass contaminato dal jazz e l'ambient a cui venne dato il nome di intelligent drum and bass.[3]

Dall'ottobre del 1994, LTJ Bukem divenne disc jockey residente del locale londinese Speed.[1][3]

Nel 1995 realizzò un Essential Mix assieme a MC Conrad. Due anni dopo remixò James Bond Theme per l'album Shaken and Stirred: The David Arnold James Bond Project di David Arnold.[3] LTJ Bukem pubblicò il suo primo e finora unico album solista Journey Inwards nel 2000.
