Arthur Rankin nel 1935

Arthur Rankin, o Arthur L. Rankin (New York, 30 agosto 1895 – Los Angeles, 23 marzo 1947), è stato un attore statunitense.

Biografia

Nato a New York nel 1895, Rankin debuttò sullo schermo nel 1914 in un film in due bobine della Biograph Company, Martin Chuzzlewit, una delle versioni cinematografiche del romanzo di Charles Dickens. Fu il primo di una serie di oltre centocinquanta pellicole che Rankin avrebbe interpretato fino al 1941, l'anno del suo ultimo film.

Famiglia

Suo figlio Arthur Rankin Jr. è stato un noto regista e produttore di film d'animazione, attivo principalmente tra gli anni ottanta e novanta in lungometraggi, alcuni dei quali di successo come Lo Hobbit (1977) e L'ultimo unicorno (1982). Sua madre, l'attrice Phyllis Rankin, era imparentata con la famiglia Barrymore e con quella dei Drew, altri famosi attori, star delle scene teatrali. Phyllis, pure lei figlia d'arte, si sposò con Harry Davenport, che - dopo il matrimonio - adottò Arthur.
