World Wrestling Entertainment, Inc. (Skammstafað sem WWE) er bandarískt atvinnuglímufyrirtæki og afþreyingarfyrirtæki. WWE hefur einnig tekið þátt í öðrum sviðum, þar á meðal kvikmyndum, amerískum fótbolta og fleira. Fyrirtækið tekur að auki þátt í að veita fyrirtækjum leyfi fyrir hugverkum sínum til að framleiða tölvuleiki og ofurhetjukallar. Fyrirtækið var stofnað þann 7. janúar 1953 sem Capitol Wrestling Corporation. Það er stærsta atvinnuglímufyrirtæki í heimi með starfsfólki sínu skipt í tvo aðalferðahópa og tvo þroskahópa. WWE er í boði fyrir 1 milljarð heimila um allan heim á 30 tungumálum.[1] Höfuðstöðvar fyrirtækisins eru staðsettar í Stamford, Connecticut með skrifstofur í New York, Los Angeles, Mexíkóborg, Mumbai, Sjanghæ, Singapúr, Dúbaí og München.[2]

Saga fyrirtækisins

Ekki er vitað hver stofnandinn var, sumar heimildir segja að það hafi verið Vincent J. McMahon[3] á meðan aðrar heimildir segja að faðir hans McMahon, Jess McMahon,[4] hafi verið stofnandi Capitol Wrestling Corporation. Fyrirtækið gekk síðar til liðs í National Wrestling Alliance (Skammstafað sem NWA) og hinn frægi New York verkefnisstjóri Toots Mondt gekk fljótlega til liðs við fyrirtækið. Vincent J. McMahon og Toots Mondt voru mjög farsælir og stjórnuðu fljótlega um það bil 70% af bókunarvaldi NWA. Árið 1963 lentu McMahon og Mondt í rifrildi við NWA vegna þess að Buddy Rogers var bókaður til að halda NWA World Heavyweight Championship. World Wide Wrestling Federation var endurnefnt í World Wrestling Federation (Skammstafað sem WWF) árið 1979.

Sonur Vincent J. McMahon, Vincent K. McMahon, og eiginkona hans Linda, stofnuðu Titan Sports, Inc. árið 1980 í South Yarmouth, Massachusetts og notuðu vörumerki fyrir upphafsstafina „WWF“.[5]

Árið 1982 keypti McMahon Capitol Sports móðurfyrirtæki WWF af föður sínum.[6] Þegar McMahon tók við fyrirtækinu vann hann strax að því að fá WWF í sjónvarpi um öll Bandaríkin. Þetta vakti reiði annarra forvígismanna og truflaði rótgróin mörk mismunandi glímufyrirtæki Að auki notaði fyrirtækið tekjur af auglýsingum, sjónvarpssamningum og segulbandssölu til að tryggja hæfileika frá samkeppnisaðilum.

Capitol Sports stjórnaði þegar mestu norðaustursvæðinu, en McMahon vildi að WWF væri landsglímufyrirtæki, eitthvað sem NWA samþykkti ekki. Skömmu síðar yfirgaf hann fyrirtæki sitt frá NWA, líkt og American Wresting Alliance, sem stjórnaði Norður-Miðvesturríkjum Bandaríkjanna. Til að verða landsfyrirtæki þurfti WWF að vera stærra en nokkurt NWA fyrirtæki sem til var.
