Vanua Balavu (diucapkan βaˈnua mbaˈlaβu) adalah pulau terbesar ketiga di Fiji Kepulauan Lau dan pulau utama Grup Lau Utara.

Geografi

Pulau karang dan vulkanik ini memiliki luas daratan 53 kilometer persegi (20 mil persegi). Ketinggian maksimumnya adalah 283 meter (928 kaki). Pulau ini dicirikan oleh tebing-tebing undercut yang curam, dengan tanah vulkanik yang subur. Itu disiram dengan baik dan memiliki mata air panas. Ada sistem terumbu yang luas, termasuk pulau Qilaqila yang juga dikenal sebagai Bay of Islands. Pemilik tradisional Qilaqila adalah iTaukei, mataqalis dari Desa Mavana. Semua pengunjung Qilaqila harus melakukan sevusevu dan telah mendapat izin dari tetua desa Desa Daliconi untuk berkunjung.

Desa utama di pulau itu adalah Lomaloma. Vanua Balavu memiliki landasan terbang, kantor pos di pelabuhan kopra Lomaloma, dan sebuah rumah sakit kecil. Ada juga Proyek Biofuel Kopra Lomaloma yang memasok listrik ke tiga desa, Naqara, Sawana dan Lomaloma, namun sekarang sudah tidak berfungsi.
