Urban Saints

Urban Saints adalah suatu organisasi amal pemuda Kristen yang berbasis di Britania Raya. Sebelumnya dikenal sebagai Crusaders, telah beroperasi sejak awal tahun 1900-an. Urban Saints adalah anggota dari Evangelical Alliance.[1]

Sejarah

Grup asalnya, Crusaders, dibentuk pada tahun 1900 di London utara oleh Rev. Albert Kestin,[2] dengan tujuan pengajaran Alkitab bagi orang-orang muda yang tidak menghadiri gereja.[3] Beberapa kelompok yang sama dimulaii dalam tahun-tahun berikutnya dan pada tahun 1906, di bawah kepemimpinan Herbert Bevington, para pemimpin sebelas kelompok memutuskan untuk membentuk Crusaders' Union sebagai sebuah organisasi payung.[4] Pada tahun 1939 ada 256 kelompok.[5]

Pada tahun 2006, organisasi ini dikenal sebagai Urban Saints.[6] Nama yang diungkap dalam sebuah konser di Royal Albert Hall untuk merayakan ulang tahun keseratus Crusaders' Union,[7]

Pada tahun 2000, Matt Summerfield menjadi chief executive. Sejak itu, organisasi telah mengembangkan "Energize", sumber online, kegiatan pemuridan, diskusi, dan video untuk kelompok remaja dan anak-anak.[8][9] Sampai tahun 2018, Energize memiliki lebih dari 1600 pelanggan.[10]

Urban Saints juga menawarkan kamp musim panas, perjalanan petualangan ke luar negeri dan tambahan kebutuhan pelatihan.[11][12] Urban Saints memiliki Urban Saints Westbrook, suatu pusat perumahan dan perkemahan di Isle of Wight.[13] Situs ini telah beroperasi sejak tahun 1948.[14]

Pada tahun 2017, menyusul kedatangan Richard Langmead sebagai chief executive,[15] strategi organisasi menempatkan fokus pada penanaman dan pendukungan kelompok-kelompok baru di gereja-gereja, sekolah-sekolah dan masyarakat di seluruh Britania Raya dan Irlandia.[16]
