Tunggul pohon merupakan sisa dari sebuah pohon yang telah ditebang berupa bagian pangkal batang dengan akar yang masih tertanam di tanah. Tunggul pohon biasanya menampilkan cincin umur sebuah pohon.

Regenerasi

Tunggul pohon dapat beregenerasi menjadi pohon baru. Kebanyakan tumbuhan peluruh yang ditebang dapat tumbuh tunas baru di pinggiran tunggul, atau dari akarnya.[1]

Menghilangkan tunggul pohon

Tunggul pohon bisa saja sulit dihilangkan dari tanah. Beberapa cara di antaranya dengan digali, dihancurkan menggunakan alat penghancur, atau dibakar.

Cara yang umum untuk menghilangkan tunggul pohon yaitu dengan menggunakan bahan kimia, salah satunya kalium nitrat (KNO3) yang mempercepat proses pembusukan tunggul pohon. Setelah rata-rata 4 hingga 6 minggu, tunggul pohon akan membusuk dan dapat dipecah menjadi potongan kecil. Membakar tunggul pohon yang telah menyerap kalium nitrat akan mempercepat proses pembakaran dengan efektif, karena kandungan zat asam dalam senyawa nitrat menjadikan senyawa tersebut oksidator yang efektif.
