Tito Lutwa Okello (1914 - 3 Juni 1996) adalah seorang perwira tingi militer dan politisi Uganda. Ia menjabat sebagai Presiden Uganda selama enam bulan (29 Juli 1985-26 Januari 1986).

Latar belakang

Tito Okello lahir tahun 1914 dalam keluarga suku bangsa Acholi[1] di Nam Okora, Distrik Kitgum.[2]

Pada 1940, saat ia berusia 26 tahun, ia bergabung dengan King's African Rifles (KAR), pasukan kolonial saat itu. Hampir bersamaan waktunya dengan bergabungnya Idi Amin dalam pasukan yang sama.[2] Ia ikut terlibat dalam pertempuran Kampanye Afrika Timur.

Tito Okello merupakan salah satu komandan dalam pasukan koalisi antara Tentara Pertahanan Rakyat Tanzania dan Tentara Pembebasan Uganda (UNLA) yang menjatuhkan Idi Amin dari kursi presiden tahun 1979. Ia terpilih sebagai Komandan Tentara Pembebasan Uganda dari tahun 1980 sampai tahun 1985.

Kudeta

Pada Juli 1985, bersama-sama dengan Bazilio Olara Okello, Tito Lutwa Okello melakukan kudeta untuk menggulingkan Presiden Milton Obote. Ia menjabat sebagai presiden selama enam bulan hingga ia digulingkan oleh Tentara Perlawanan Nasional (NRA) dipimpin oleh presiden saat ini, Yoweri Museveni. Setelah digulingkan, ia diasingkan ke Kenya.
