Bumi, pada periode Staterium

Staterium (dari kata bahasa Yunani Kuno, σταθερός, romanisasi: statherós, yang berarti "tetap") adalah periode geologi keempat dan terakhir pada era Paleoproterozoikum yang berlangsung dari 1800 - 1600 juta tahun yang lalu.[1][2]

Geologi dan Iklim

Waktu tersebut bukan berdasarkan stratigrafi, melainkan didefinisikan secara kronometrik. Awal dari periode ini ditandai dengan terbentuknya Formasi Besi Berpita terakhir, karena sudah tidak ada lagi besi yang larut dilautan pada saat ini. Di pertengahan periode ini, lebih tepatnya 1700 juta tahun lalu, Superbenua Kolumbia terbentuk. Oksigen pada atmosfer Bumi saat ini 80-90% lebih sedikit daripada jumlah masa kini.[3]

Reaktor nuklir alami Oklo, Gabon aktif sekitar 1.7 miliar tahun lalu.[4]

Kehidupan

Alga Rafatazmia, yang, secara kontroversial[5] diklaim dapat ditemukan di bebatuan Staterium di India, bisa menjadi fosil eukariota tertua yang pernah ditemukan.[6]
