Olahraga ski air

Ski air adalah olahraga air yang pemainnya meluncur di atas air menggunakan papan yang ditarik dengan perahu.[1] Ski air menjadi salah satu cabang olimpiade pada tahun 1972.[2] Ski air membutuhkan peralatan antara lain papan ski, tali penarik beserta peganggan, sarung tangan, pelampung, dan perahu penarik.[3] Selain menggunakan papan ski, ski air juga dapat menggunakan pelampung atau dikenal dengan istilah tubing, pelampung ini juga digunakan sebagai sarana pembelajaran melatih keseimbangan bagi pemain pemula.[3]

Sejarah

Percobaan ski air pertama kali dilakukan oleh Ralph Samuelson pada tahun 1922 menggunakan lempengan drum kayu dan menggunakan perahu sebagai penarik.[2] Usaha Samuelson menggunakan papan drum gagal, sehingga ia membuat sendiri papan ski berukuran 20 cm x 23 cm dan menggunakan tali kulit sebagai penahan kaki.[2] Pada 8 Juli 1925 Samuelson melakukan lompat ski air dengan ketinggian 18 meter, ia menjadi pemain ski air pertama yang melaju dengan kecepatan tinggi.[2] Ski air masuk ke Indonesia pada tahun 1952, olahraga ini pertama kali dikembangkan oleh prajurit TNI Andi Mattalatta di daerah Makassar.[1]
