Sistem Penghitungan Karbon Nasional Indonesia (Indonesian National Carbon Accounting System, INCAS), adalah sebuah alat untuk memantau tingkat emisi karbon di Indonesia. INCAS dikembangkan oleh Kementerian Lingkungan dan Kehutanan Republik Indonesia bersama dengan lembaga internasional lain seperti AusAID, CIFOR, dan REDD sejak tahun 2008 untuk kawasan hutan di Kalimantan,[1][2] namun penerapannya secara nasional baru dilakukan tahun 2015 dengan metodologi yang baru.[3] INCAS dibangun berdasarkan model yang sama yang digunakan di Australia.[4]

Salah satu tujuan dari pengembangan sistem ini adalah sebagai perwujudan komitmen Indonesia dalam mengurangi emisi gas rumah kaca sebesar 41% pada tahun 2020, karena dalam mengurangi emisi maka perlu diketahui pula berapa emisi yang telah dikeluarkan selama ini dan memperkirakan emisi yang akan dikeluarkan pada masa mendatang.[2]

Dalam praktiknya, INCAS menggunakan pendekatan pemodelan yang dipicu oleh suatu kejadian untuk menghitung perubahan dalam stok karbon dari suatu proses yang terjadi secara terus-menerus (misalnya produksi, peralihan, penguraian/pembusukan) dan kejadian lain yang terjadi secara berkala dan berdampak langsung terhadap aliran karbon [5]

Proses-proses utama dalam pemodelan INCAS meliputi :

  1. Produksi (pertumbuhan) - pertumbuhan biomassa dari hasil kombinasi dari perpindahan karbon dari atmosfer ke biomassa (fotosintesis) dan perpindahan sejumlah material dari biomassa ke atmosfer (respirasi)
  2. Peralihan/turnover (kehilangan material) -perpindahan karbon dari biomassa yang berada di atas dan di bawah permukaan tanah ke bahan organik mati
  3. penguraian/breakdown (dekomposisi) - perpindahan karbon yang berasal dari bahan organik mati menuju atmosfer karbon tanah[6]
